What would it mean for UNISON to truly be an organising union?

What would it mean for UNISON to truly be an organising union?

Ian Allinson will be speaking at this Workers Can Win event, which is a fringe meeting for UNISON’s National Delegate Conference but open to all.

UNISON has begun to change for the better. The impact of the Organising To Win strategy is growing, reflected in increased membership and numbers of activists. Improved strike pay is enabling members in disputes to take the sustained action sometimes needed to win.

But there is a long way to go. UNISON’s communications often still encourage members to passively expect a service rather than to exercise collective power. Our industrial action processes are amongst the slowest and most bureaucratic in the movement. And we often struggle to overcome the anti-union ballot thresholds that Starmer has set no timescale to repeal.

Join this discussion about what organising really means and how UNISON could truly become an organising union.

54 St James St is near Chinatown and Liverpool One. From the ACC cross Queens Wharf bridge, go straight ahead up Blundell Street and turn right into St James St (0.6 miles).

Thanks to UNISON Greater Manchester Transport and Greater Manchester Mental Health branches, which have sponsored the event.
